Let’s have some fun! Do you ever imagine scenarios in which you’re stranded on an island and can only choose a few items to bring with you, and then ponder over what you would choose and why? Or what project you would knit for the rest of your life if you could only choose one? What an agonizing decision. Do you do this, too? No? Just me? I know I can get a little lofty and stuck inside my head sometimes, but humor me here.
Ok, so let’s imagine –
All the fiber artists in the world are being forced to choose just one yarn to craft with for the rest of their lives due to the shortage of wool and supplies. Brands just can’t keep up with the sheer volume of manufacturing their yarns, not to mention all the different weights, fiber contents, and lines of yarns that they’ve been advertising and stocking for years now. Could they do something different? Yes, of course. But they feel backed into a corner and as if this the only way to stay afloat.
So, they take a vote. KnitPicks and all the other big yarn brands have cast their polls. There’s one week for everyone to get in their response before its close. Whatever yarn line gets the most votes is the one that they will stock. The rest will be liquidated and never return to the shelves, at least not in our lifetime.
What do you vote for? What’s your all-time favorite yarn from KnitPicks? I know, it’s difficult to choose just one. So, let’s do our top two.
MY #1
Shocker – my vote is KnitPicks Stroll. I absolutely adore this yarn. It’s the main base that I used in my hand-dyed yarn shop, and what most of my projects are made with. Why do I love this yarn so much? I have a lot of reasons, but this yarn is incredibly versatile. It can be used in a variety of projects, held double (or even triple!) and makes beautiful handmade items.
- It’s soft and made from 75% superwash merino wool and 25% nylon for toughness
- It’s easy to work with and glides through my hands like butter
- My kids love their knits made from it
- It comes in a gazillion colors
- It’s affordable
MY #2
My second choice would be KnitPicks Wool of the Andes. I’ve knit a few sweaters with this yarn and it’s a dream.
- It’s 100% wool and keeps you warm in the cold winter months
- Worsted weight works up quickly
- Rustic and woolly but not so scratchy that my kids won’t wear it
- Softens with washing and wearing
- It comes in a ton of colors
- It’s very affordable
I’d be biting my nails the entire week hoping that my yarn vote would come out on top. I don’t know what I’d do if Stroll and Wool of the Andes would no longer be!
What about you? What yarn would you choose if you absolutely had to? Tell me all about it!
