Do you want to learn how to crochet? Are you a beginner and need to practice the basics? This is the place for you! I’ve created a video tutorial for how to crochet for beginners.
Techniques that you will learn in this tutorial include:
- Overview of yarn
- Making a slip knot
- How to hold your hook and yarn
- Making a chain
- Single crochet stitch
- How to end each row and turn your work
- How to finish your project – weaving in your ends
Materials you’ll need to get started:
- Yarn – Worsted weight yarn (you should see the number 4 on the ball band which indicates the yarn weight). Using a light color makes it easier to see stitches.
- Crochet hook – US H/5mm hook in this tutorial. It’s a good rule of thumb to use the recommended hook size that’s stated on the ball band, but if you aren’t sure, go with a size US H/5mm or US I/5.5mm. Those sizes are used in a lot of crochet patterns.
- Tapestry/darning needles – These are needles that are larger than a regular sewing needle, not as sharp, and have a bigger opening to feed your yarn tail through.
- Scissors
